Join alum Mark Ernest Pothier (A '84) for a reading from his novel, Outer Sunset*, followed by a discussion and book signing. Then, explore the new bookstore opening in fall 2024 in the renovated and restored Edensword Hall (formerly Campbell Hall).

Mark's first published story won a Chicago Tribune/Nelson Algren Award in 1994, but his debut novel, Outer Sunset (University of Iowa Press) – called “insightful and bittersweet — a terrific novel” by the San Francisco Chronicle – wasn't published until three decades later. In the interim, in addition to publishing shorter work elsewhere, he’s worked in the communications offices of California Humanities, The James Irvine Foundation, The Judicial Council of California, and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. In addition to his BA from St. John’s he earned a MFA from San Francisco State. He lives with his wife Kee Fricke-Pothier (A'87) and kids in San Francisco. Learn more at www.MarkErnestPothier.com.
