Our Homecoming 2024 seminar will delve into the Dionysian revels in the elegant and brutal play Euripides’ Bacchae, whereby the brand-new Olympian god, Dionysus, arrives in the city of Thebes. With the city in thrall to Dionysus and his power to intoxicate, enchant, and destroy, what is Thebes’ young ruler, Pentheus, supposed to do? As the drama unfolds, driven by the violent, erotic power of Dionysus, we bear witness as Pentheus stumbles in a daze toward the final horror that the god has arranged for the city. Bacchae delivers tragic catharsis at its finest, and we hope you’ll experience it with us at the Homecoming 2024 seminar.
