At the Day of Classics, you will experience the classroom and community of our adult lifelong learning programs designed for the curious, the engaged and the seekers.   Discover an educational experience like no other, in just a single day.

Your reading will be Abraham Lincoln’s “Lyceum Address.” In 1838, Lincoln was a practicing lawyer and a Whig representative in the Illinois state legislature. As a young man, Lincoln had concerns about the rise of Jacksonian politics, with the Founding generation fading away and a new generation rising. For Lincoln, this generational change represented a dangerous moment for America—a time when ambitious politicians might be tempted to operate outside of the boundaries of the law to secure their own prominence.

Conversations begun in seminar will continue over the lunch that follows. The afternoon Tutor and Student Panel presents an opportunity to take the seminar text further, discussing its timeless importance to our contemporary lives, and learning more about St. John’s.

Cost is $250 for the day.  Full details are at: https://www.sjc.edu/day-classics
