https://www.sjc.edu/johnnieweek/earth-dayEarth Day has always been celebrated by the city of Santa Fe and our surrounding communities, reflecting an ethos of sustainability and desire to live more harmoniously with nature. St. John’s has a long tradition of joining in the observance of this day: in fact, the first president of the Santa Fe campus, Richard Weigle, led celebrations at the very first Earth Day in 1970.
St. John’s presents Earth Day in Santa Fe, with a day of events that are free and open to all celebrating sustainability, environmentalism, and an appreciation of nature, including:
A concert by Johnnie-founded EcoSono Ensemble, “Soundscapes of Hope”
A talk by eco-philosopher Sophie Strand, “Myth and Mycelium”
An experiential tutorial of the armillary sphere
A golden hour campus tree walk
Outdoor activities and demonstrations hosted by St. John’s student organizations
