Kierkegaard is arguably the most profound thinker about admiration, and his expressions of it are a major reason his writings are so inspiring. Typically, authors express admiration in order to promote what they admire, and this is true of Kierkegaard too. But perhaps what he seeks most as a writer is to communicate admiration itself, because he regards it as essential in one way or another to all of the best things in life. This lecture explicates Kierkegaard’s theory and practice of admiration.
