Tutor Panel: Natalie Elliot (SF), Khafiz Kerimov, Patricia Locke
Marcel Proust, author of a seven-volume novel, In Search of Lost Time, passed away one hundred years ago today. In honor of his life’s work, we would like to test out what we can find from reading just one paragraph together. The passage focuses on a child’s experience of listening to his mother read out loud before bedtime. From a close consideration of this short passage from Proust’s novel, we may be able to think more clearly about the activity of reading and the place of fiction in particular. Each of the tutors will make brief remarks based on their own reading and then we will discuss the questions that emerge.
