Readings: Newton’s Laws of Motion and tutor Brendon Lasell’s essay on science and the Great Books
How do we learn science through great texts rather than textbooks? Newton’s Laws of Motion remain foundational to the study of physics, but they also raise profound questions about the order of nature, the intelligibility of the universe, and the human capacity to understand it. Brendon Lasell’s essay will frame our inquiry into what is gained when we encounter science through original works.
Teachers joining us for our free online Saturday seminar will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. ET in a small, interactive class led by St. John’s faculty. The seminar will conclude with discussion of ways to incorporate such readings into science and humanities classrooms.
