Readings: The Bill of Rights (U.S. Constitution) and tutor Harvey Flaumenhaft’s essay History and Liberal Education: Hindrance or Help?
How should we read foundational documents like the Bill of Rights? Should we focus on their historical context, or do they speak to us across the ages in ways that transcend circumstance? With guidance from Harvey Flaumenhaft’s reflections on history and liberal education, this seminar will examine how texts and contexts interact and how educators can help students navigate both.
Teachers joining us for our free online Saturday seminar will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. ET in a small, interactive class led by St. John’s faculty. The seminar will conclude with a discussion of classroom applications.
