DESCRIPTION:When is a threshold just an in-between space\, and when is it t
he whole point? A threshold is at once a place\, a metaphor\, and a struct
ure given to us by language. It marks the space between one thing and anot
her. Drawing on notes from the artist's studio\, this talk asks what chang
es when a threshold is worked from different directions\, in different scu
lptural materials\, across different artworks.\n\nJillian Conrad is an art
ist working across sculpture\, drawing\, and installation. Her work explor
es landscape\, perception\, and the ways people orient themselves in the w
orld. She is a recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Award to Cardiff Universit
y\, Wales\, and her work has been exhibited at the Menil Drawing Institute
\, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston\, the Bronx Museum\, and Socrates Sculp
ture Park\, among other venues. Conrad is Professor of Sculpture and Coord
inator of the Sculpture Program at the University of Houston.
